As the students learn more about the various skills that will help them travel through life, they will explore the LIFESKILL of . . . .-

There are many well documented stories about people surviving some terrible natural
disaster, wilderness survival or an accident like a plane crash. The Bible has quite a few
also, stories like how Moses' mother hid him in a basket and Paul escaping over the city
walls in a basket to safety. We all experience some everyday obstacles in which we use a
wide variety of skills and techniques to successfully work through these challenges. All
of these examples involved the use of our next Lifeskill.

Resourcefulness

We also have visions for the person we want our children to become. Of course our vision for our children includes helping them them identify their dreams and develop the skills to achieve them. Next week we will be introducing to the children at Foothills one more tool to help them in their quest towards successful completion of their dreams. Resourcefulness is a very important daily tool

Students are showing signs of being resourceful when they

• Think of new plans for old materials
• Brainstorm many ideas before choosing one
• Overcome obstacles that stand in the way of solutions
• Determine the least expensive way to accomplish a goal
• Observe problems in their neighborhoods and search for answers
• Strive to protect the natural environment

Students need more practice when they
• Waste materials and money
• Repeat the same solution even when it hasn't worked the first few times
• Are impulsive
• Give up on a project
• Try the first solution that comes to mind
